27. The Still Wind…

The Still Wind

“Perhaps one day, it will also remember your name too…”

“Come along children! Yes. Yes, yes. Come along. Yes… Sit down. Sit down. Yes, yes…

You see, when we are young, we are taught that our flight comes from magic. You know? In the simplest terms… No, that’s what we need to believe as young mages.

But, it does not.

You see, the world is never truly still. The oceans rise and fall. The mountains breathe. Even Dendrasil hums beneath our feet!

And the wind is no different. There are currents that carry every leaf… Every bird, every sky ship… And there are currents that are unseen.

And we call these the ‘Still Wind’.

It is not truly still. It is simply quiet enough so only those who can listen can hear it.

You see, our ships do not force themselves through the sky. Our mages do not command the wind.

They become part of it.

And that, children, is why we fly. We have not mastered the skies. We simply understand our place within them. Many believe our gift is magic.

They are mistaken.

Magic is only the bridge.

The Still Wind is the path forward.

And there will come a day, young ones, where others seek to claim our gift. They will weigh it. They will measure it. Capture it, what have you. They will believe that because they understand its nature, that they now own it.

But the wind disguised cannot be owned. It has never belonged to us and never will.

One day, a long time from now, our songs may fade. Our sky ships may cease and our names may be forgotten… But the wind remembers every person… Every soul that has flown through it and perhaps… one day, it will remember your name too.”
