38. Faith…
A Father's Lesson
SON:
Father?
FATHER:
Yes Son?
SON:
Why does the Moon disappear?
FATHER:
She doesn't disappear, little one. We just simply cannot see all of Her.
SON:
But where does She go?
FATHER:
Nowhere. She is still there, even when the clouds cover Her. Even when the night is too dark for us to find Her.
SON:
Then how do we know She's watching?
FATHER:
We don't. That's what faith is.
SON:
Believing something even when you can't see it?
FATHER:
Exactly.
SON:
But what if I'm scared?
FATHER:
Then you pray.
SON:
And the Moon will make me not scared?
FATHER:
Perhaps. But sometimes She answers differently than we expect.
SON:
How?
FATHER:
Sometimes She gives you courage. Sometimes She gives you patience. Sometimes She puts someone beside you who can help you through the darkness.
SON:
Will She always be there?
FATHER:
As long as the tide returns, so will She.
SON:
And when I grow up?
FATHER:
You'll still look to Her.
SON:
Even when I'm old?
FATHER:
Especially then.
FATHER:
Come on. We ought to get back home. Your mother will be wondering where we are.
